Austin Butler will play Charles Watson in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

As a star athlete in high school, Watson was on the road to greatness. But his life didn't feel complete, and soon he began searching for something that would bring him a sense of fulfilment and purpose. His search led him to California's psychedelic atmosphere of drugs and free love, and into the arms of Charles Manson.

At Spahn Ranch, he was stripped of his possessions and given a new name: Tex (because of his Texas accent). He enjoyed the girls, drugs, and freedoms associated with life outside of society. He would become Manson's right-hand man. In the summer of 1969, it was Tex who was instructed to ignite Helter Skelter. On August 8th, Manson ordered him to lead Patricia Krenwinkel and Susan Atkins to 10050 Cielo Drive in Benedict Canyon, and "destroy" everyone in the house.
